Inhalt
The liturgy of the Roman-Catholic Church appears to be strict and regulated, sometimes conservative and incomprehensible, too – especially for contemporary Christians. However, the liturgy is also a central part of the Christian identity and formative for one’s consciousness about the respective confessional identity. Within this lecture, we will explore the Christian ritual practice in order to inspire to theological reflection. Within the scope of this lecture, we will thus first discuss the terms “liturgy” and “liturgical studies” and then analyze liturgy as the celebration of the faith of a community in a general manner, first looking at the constituting elements and then at the different liturgical celebrations on different occasions. The introduction to liturgical studies as a branch of theology will end with a discussion of contemporary challenges.Termine
